TSR Set Cube Draft Battle Report #7

This is a set cube where each booster has 9 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 rare/m, 2 timeshifted cards. We had 6 gamers eager to battle! The following has the decks drafted and a few highlights.

Me at 8, getting absolutely smashed by Teneb + Stonewood Innovcation 

 

 Pretty sweet draft imo despite 3 people cancelling ?_?  It's neat seeing a GB deck that isn't saproling focused win, just good curve and 2 Enslaves (wtf!). If I recall correctly storm still hasn't done particularly well so I may continue to juice it by adding Goblin Electromancer in common.

 I still haven't done my last to do list from the lousy smarch post but I also might be looking to nerf flanking in the cube in general since it really removes the ability to block reasonably well and I think atm attacking is significantly stronger than defending. One instance of flanking is fine, stacking it can get a little stupid. Feelsbadman since I realllly do like flanking but in general I want the games to be slightly longer and derpier in this set cube to match OG time spiral block gameplay and let some of the goofier silly stuff shine.

Also sidewinder sliver might be on the chopping block as well for similar reasons, flanking really stacks well with all the other buffs slivers can get. Though I'm relatively happy where the power level of slivers is at. They're strong, quite strong, but don't feel dominating or unbeatable. 

  New to do list

  • figure out sliver micro nerf 
  • ruminate on the righteousness of flanking
  • add in a few more defensive creatures in common / uncommon main sheet like yotian medic and academy wall (already added, are doing a deece job)
  • add some cheaper narrower 2 mana removal that only hits weenies (ie. last gasp). thinking having weenie removal at 2 mana and "kill anything" removal cost 4
  • increase spicy picks in the timeshifted slot in regards to build around me (coalition victory for example) 
  •  balance out main color numbers
  • look at adding some more mana sinks to encourage 17 or more lands (spellshapers, cycle lands?, X spells, kicker, etc)  
  • cut Shapeshifter's Marrow  
  • start increasing support for Invasion style domain
